The women who marched on Versailles

Parisian women march to the royal palace demanding bread, changing the course of the French Revolution.

Bread shortages and high prices brought thousands of women into the streets of Paris. They marched to Versailles and confronted the monarchy at its palace.

On October 6, Louis XVI and his family were brought back to Paris, placing them under much closer popular scrutiny.
