The Tsar gives up his throne
Nicholas II abdicates amid revolution, ending three centuries of Romanov rule over Russia.
With bread riots and army mutinies paralyzing Petrograd, Tsar Nicholas II signed his abdication at the railway siding at Pskov on March 15, 1917.
The Provisional Government that replaced him lasted only eight months before the Bolsheviks seized power, making the abdication the hinge between Russia’s two revolutions.
